How Finding Your Flow State leds to a Fulfilling Career
One of the clues we search for at Careers that Matter, when working to identify your ideal career path, is what activities put you in a state of flow. Flow, a state of complete immersion and engagement, allows us to tap into our highest potential and experience a sense of purpose.
What is a flow state?
Coined by psychologist Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi, flow is a state where you become fully absorbed in an activity, losing track of time and experiencing a deep sense of focus and enjoyment. During flow, your skills and challenges are perfectly matched, leading to an optimal state of performance. Flow has been linked to increased happiness, creativity, and overall well-being.
Recognizing Flow Triggers:
Flow experiences can be found in various areas of life, from personal hobbies to professional pursuits. Pay attention to the activities or tasks that consistently bring you into a state of flow. Notice how these activities make you feel emotionally and mentally. Do you feel a sense of excitement, energy, and engagement? Do you lose track of time while engaging in them? These emotional cues and the time warp effect are key indicators of flow triggers.
Want to explore Flow further, and how build a career path based on it?
At Careers that Matter we help teens who don't know which school subjects to pick, or what post-school education to apply for, to create their own career blueprint. This is not standard career counselling; we dive deep into who you truly are, we aim for a career that matters both you and your community, and we think deeply about what careers of the future are. We don't tell you what to do with your life; we help you discover it. The program is available globally for teenagers across all timezones. Parents are welcome to attend as much or as little of the program as they like.
